SYF is coming up in 3-4weeks time for both the chinese dancers and modern dancers. You guys must be feeling very anxious and nervous right now right? Super scared as the 'faithful' day nears? Hopefully you are feeling that way, cause I am. I am so freaking scared! So little time yet so many things to do! Many of the sec4s have been discussing about this anxiety, a few of us even having nightmares as like sulaoshi and wanglaoshi have. 紧张到! Even though there isn't much time left, we must not be discouraged! We must put in even more effort now, to make our dances improve even more with every practise. We must not allow ourselves to make anymore mistakes at this point of time, every single dance must be treated as the competition itself. Though SYF IS indeed a competition among many schools, it must not be treated as a competition. We must strive to excel, but at the same time, we must enjoy the process of it. Like what sulaoshi had said, the prize is but a bonus, what is important is the process. Both dances need us to feel the music, to be one with the music and the dance moves. If we treat SYF solely as a competition, it would be hard to achieve this. Notice that during the process of choreography back in the End of Year Holidays, the dances seemed to be better, though the techniques were still raw. It was because our mood made the atmosphere a lively one, it made the dances less dead. Right now that we focus so much on perfectly our moves, it seems as if we had forgotten the joy of dancing altogether. 'an empty structure with no soul.' We should, however, polish up the dance and at the same time, understand the purpose and learn to enjoy it. Diao-ing the movements is actually making the fruit of your labour look more beautiful, more presentable. Dance for the sake of yourself, not for others. Dance because you have the passion, not because you are forced to. 加油加油! Everybody please do take care of yourself and don't get yourself hurt. This is a very crucial time. A dance can never be completed if a dancer is missing. A dance troupe can never be completed too. leng |
